Songkran (Thai New Year)

Encountering our neighborhood monks on a morning walk. They make their rounds each morning to collect food from our neighbors who prepare it and offer it to them to make merit. A reminder of the desperate need for Christ in this unreached place, and in our immediate community. Songkran, the Thai New Year celebration, is held in the middle of April each year! It is essentially a week long, nation-wide water festival. It is the biggest holiday of the year, celebrated by wearing colorful floral shirts, patting white powder on each other's faces, and spraying passersby with water. April is also the peak of hot season here in Thailand, with daily temperatures often reaching 105 or higher, so this water festival falls at a welcome time! Our family took this holiday as an opportunity to close the food truck for a few days, giving our employees time with their families, and allowing us a few days to get away to the cooler mountains a few hours away!
